Pilates at a Glance
It is a popular fitness system characterized by precise movements that help increase muscle strength, flexibility, endurance, and overall control of the mind and body. It involves rhythmic, controlled movements at varying intensities, as well as the use of equipment such as reformers, pilates rings, and resistance bands.
Classical pilates was developed by German-born Joseph Pilates in the early twentieth century. He had a holistic view of health and believed in the connection between physical and mental health. It has come a long way since the 1900s and now has more than 11 million devoted practitioners worldwide.
Classical versus modified Pilates
There are two kinds of pilates being currently taught: classical and modern. Contemporary pilates gives room to so many variations and has somehow deviated from classical pilates as taught by Pilates himself. At Zen Health-Olinda we believe that sticking to the original method as developed by Pilates himself delivers better results than fusion Pilates. Compared to integrative pilates, classical pilates is never haphazardly done, which is why it produces consistent results—the same intended results that Pilates himself had in mind when he created an developed his own fitness system.
